A woman has sat for exams just half an hour after giving birth.
21-year-old Almaz Derese from Western Ethiopia took her exams on her hospital bed after they were initially postponed due to Ramadan.
According to BBC, Derese had hoped to do the exams prior to her child’s birth but the postponement fell right on her delivery day as she went into labour shortly before the exams began on Monday.
“Because I was rushing to sit the exam, my labour wasn’t difficult at all,” she said.
Her husband said that they had to convince the school to allow her take the exams at the hospital.
Giving birth in exam room
In 2018, a candidate sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams in Kitui County gave birth as she sat for the English paper.
The Misuuni Primary School pupil developed labour pains at the exam room and was assisted by the head teacher, Naomi Mbaki and the KCPE’s officials to give birth to a bouncing baby girl.
Mbaki said the candidate was immediately taken to Mbiti Health Centre for specialised medication where she was admitted.
