Man parts with K6, 000 for deflowering a girl

A Lusaka man has been fined K6, 000 by a Chilenje Local Cout for deflowering and making a girl pregnant.
Peter Singoyi, 29, of Garden Township was sued by Kenward Mwape,60, of the same area seeking compensation.
Mwape told senior local court magistrate Ackim Phiri that Singoyi damaged and impregnated his daughter last year.
He said Singoyi never supported his daughter from the time she was pregnant up to the time she gave birth.
“We called him and his family but we never charged him. I realized that coming to court is the best way for him to compensate me. I want him to pay for deflowering my daughter,” he said.
In defence Singoyi said he informed his parents when he damaged and impregnated the girl.
“Her parents said they will charge me after the child is born. We were waiting for them to calm us. They never called and we couldn’t go there without them calling us,
“I used to support my child when I was working but now I am not and I don’t have any source of income,” he said.
The court ordered Singoyi to pay K6,000 compensation for damage with the first installment of K1,000 effective July.
