A LUSAKA man who still owes his father-in-law dowry payment has been sued in the Matero Local Court.

Christopher Tembo, 65 sued Oswald Kunda, 40, of Mtendere East for the payment of the same.

The two were appearing before Magistrate Pauline Newa.

Tembo told the court that Kunda was his son in-law married to his daughter.

“In August 2018 he came to court to end the marriage with my daughter but has not finished paying dowry after he made a down payment of K2, 000. The court ordered him to start paying in September but he has not done so,” said Tembo

He said Kunda had not been picking up his calls and he was now owing him K7, 000 , hence the reason for suing in the court of law.

In defence Kunda told the court that he can only start paying in December with an initial installment of K2,000.

“I got married to Tembo’s daughter and was charged K9,000. I made a down payment of K2,000. I told him I would give him the balance when I have it,” said Kunda “.

The court, however, was not amused by Kunda’s story after it observed that he did not appear serious about the payment and slapped an extra K200 to be paid effective June 30.
