THE Lusaka Boma Local Court has ordered a 22-year-old woman of Mtendere to compensate her boyfriend’s wife with K500 for calling her a witch.
This was in a matter in which Rhoda Lungu was ordered by the court to compensate her boyfriend’s wife, Charity Chinyika, 27, of the same area with K500 over insults.
Ms Chinyika told Senior Local Court Magistrate Mpundu Mwape that Ms Lungu was her husband’s girlfriend and they have a child together.
“I don’t know if they are still dating but she always insults me. I want to know why she comes home, calls me a witch, and insults me when my husband already pays her child maintenance money,” she said.
She told the court that last month Ms Lungu met her husband along the road and after they spoke, she came to their home and started disrespecting her.
“I asked her what she wanted and she said she wanted my husband. She told me ‘sininga konke iwe imbwa’ and she told me she had come to get my husband,
“She told me ‘nifuna mwamuna wako ani fikize mwamene pina pangana’ she also told me I’m a witch and my father wasted his sperm on me,” Ms Chinyika said.
In defence Ms Lungu told the court that it was not Ms Chinyika she insulted but her husband.
“This woman always threatened me when I was pregnant and always said she will make sure I don’t deliver and that her grandmother is a witch and she will do anything she can to make sure my child dies,” Ms Lungu said.
She said whenever she reached out to Ms Chinyika’s husband over an issue to do with the child, which had always brought about problems.
The court found that there was confusion brought by Ms Chinyika’s husband who had a child outside his marriage.
It found Ms Lungu guilty of insulting Ms Chinyika and ordered Ms Lungu to compensate her with K500.
