Athletes youthful zeal elate OYDC

THE Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) is happy with the high level of competition among athletes taking part in the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge from the time the new season opened in March this year.

Programmes officer Mellissa Manjonga said the athletes had continued to show the zeal for netball.

Manjonga said the commitment was keeping the athletes busy from indulging in illicit activities in their communities.

She said the centre organised the competition to allow young talented athletes to be engaged in organised competitions and training.

Manjonga said she was impressed with Olympafrica who had continued to develop since the competition started.

“Last weekend we managed to have netball where we had different teams from different communities which includes Chipata, Mandevu, Matero and Northpark,” she said.

“I was impressed with how Olympafrica managed to play. This is a team which has developed since we started Tuelings, and the good part of this competition is that no team is going to be a consistent winner of the league, as teams manage to beat each other.

Majonga urged communities and schools to take advantage of the competition, which was aimed at producing what she termed as podium athletes.

Olympafrica Netball Team last weekend dominated the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge winning all the games played in a competition that attracted over 20 teams.
