A MARRIED couple of four years has failed to reconcile at the Lusaka Boma Local Court.

Loveness Mulando and her husband, Christopher Phiri, 43, have been on separation for a month after failing to resolve their misunderstandings.

Mulando told senior court magistrate George Kaoma that Phiri married her in 2016 and that one major problem was that he beat her often.

“My husband doesn’t trust me. He beats me over any small issue and as I am speaking there is no food at home because he doesn’t provide for me and our children,” she said.

Mulando testified that she was pregnant but her husband had said he was not responsible and had chased her from home.

“We have been on separation for a month and I want to go back home because he is the father of my child and the one I’m expecting,” she said.

Phiri did not deny the allegation that he had been beating his wife.

He told the court that Mulando had the problem of going straight to his relatives to report their marital disputes instead of talking to him first.

“She also uses a lot of medicines, which scares me. I once found my passport size photo wrapped in some medicines of hers and I took it to church elders who said it was very dangerous medicine,” Phiri said.

He said he and his wife had been on separation and that he did not know that she was pregnant.

Phiri said he suspected he was not the father of the child she was expecting because even the time she was leaving home, he did not know who had taken her from home.

“I don’t know how she left home. She can come home, but I want the same people who got her to bring her back. I don’t want her to come on her own, but the same people who got her should be the ones to bring her back,” Phiri said.

The court found that Phiri suspected his wife was not carrying his child and had put conditions for his wife was to go back home.

The reconciliation had therefore failed.
