THE highly charged game between Division One Zone one pacesetters National Assembly and second-placed Police College ended in nil-all stalemate to maintain the four point’s difference between the two sides in a game played on Wednesday at the Showgrounds.
Both teams desperately need a win to enhance their title aspirations going into the Wednesday week 27 game, with four matches left before the end of the season.
Police who have a game in hand needed to collect three points to reduce their 4-point difference with their hosts Assembly who had four games left prior to their tie.
Assembly had 58 points while their visitors on second place had 54 points on the division one, zone -one league table.
Police coach Abuid Mwale still believes his team’s game in hand gives them an upper hand over their opponents Assembly.
Mwale told the Sun Sport that despite the draw leaving his team in a dilemma, they still had the chance to catch and win promotion.
“Definitely, we shall catch up because we have a game in hand which have to play next week and if we win, it will mean that we will be trailing by one point,” said Mwale
Mwale said that destiny was still in their favor despite needing other teams to help them by beating the log leaders Assembly in the remaining games.
However that game was without drama as at some point it was halted after Police disapproved some of the decisions of the referee.
The referee was at one point seen complaining to the home side’s technical bench over ‘harassment’ from some of uniformed police officers that had accompanied the team.
The game further saw Assembly’s midfielder Olia Phiri, sent off following a second bookable offence on a Police striker in the 81st minute.
The draw has no major bearing on the log for the two sides as Assembly moved to 59 points while the second placed Police now have 55 points.
Assembly next opponents are Petauke United in their week 29 game on Sunday while Police hosts Chilenje’s Happy Hearts on the same day.
