Manyuchi grabs GBU title – as Intercity boxer chalks victory in Zimbabwe

FORMER Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions’ Boxer Charles Manyuchi clobbered Argentine boxer Pablo Acosta to become the new Global Boxing Union-Universal Boxing Council GBU/UBC middle weight unification champion.

And the newly established Intercity Boxing Academy chalked its first victory in Zimbabwe, where it sent three fighters.

Manyuchi, who is a former WBC silver weight champion, entertained boxing lovers who stormed the Harare International Conference Center (HICC) on Saturday night to cheer him in his second fight in Zimbabwe, his home country.

He did not disappoint his fans, producing some deadly punches which knocked out the Argentine boxer in the fifth round of the bout.

Speaking in an interview after the fight, Manyuchi said he was happy to have knocked out the Argentine after a few years of being away from the ring.

He said he would now focus on taking a bite at the WBF title, which he has been eyeing for some time now.

And four Zambian boxers impressed in Zimbabwe with one of them recording a technical knockout.

Newly established Intercity Boxing Academy which contributed three competitors produced one triumphant boxer, Hillary Kataya, who defeated Aliya Phiri from Manyuchi Boxing Academy on unanimous points decision.

The win excited coaches Francis ‘Galagata’ Zulu and Steven Silungwe who hailed the boxer for putting up a determined fight.

“As Intercity Boxing Academy we are not disappointed with the performance of our boxers. One boxer fought his debut professional fight, which he won and that encourages us as trainers to continue making a deference in the lives of these young people,” Silungwe said.

Exodus Boxing Academy’s Simon ‘Hitman’ Ngoma knocked out Patson Mutengwa from Zimbabwe in the third round while Lina Kashweka defeated Zvikomborero Dadzwa from Zimbabwe on a unanimous decision.

Alice the Classic Dall Mbewe defeated Fortune China from Zimbabwe on unanimous points decision.

Exodus Boxing Academy manager Antony Mwamba was appointed a representative of the Global Boxing Union in Africa.
