CHIRUNDU district commissioner Alfred Hamunjo has refuted the rumour that he has been fired.

Mr Hamunjo told the Sun in Chirundu that he had seen an article circulating on social media indicating some changes of district commissioners in Lusaka Province.

“I have seen the article circulating on social media, but I have not been formally and officially been sent a letter to relieve me of my duties,” he said.

Mr Hamunjo said if it was true then he was still waiting for formal communication from the higher authority.

Meanwhile, Chirundu district Patriotic Front chairman Peter Kangwa said a meeting was called in Lusaka concerning the changes of district commissioners in the province and he attended it.

Mr Kangwa said what was circulating on social media was true and final.

He said former Lusaka PF district chairman Evaristo Kayame was the newly appointed Chirundu district commissioner.

Meanwhile, some residents of Chirundu district have received the message with anxiety and are uncertain whether it is just a rumour circulating or to believe what they have heard.

Mr Hamunjo is still occupying his office.
