Goat thief stoned to death

A 22 –YEAR- OLD year man of Nakonde District has been stoned to death for allegedly stealing a goat.
Muchinga Province Deputy Police Commissioner James Masiye identified the deceased as Steve Muzopola, 22 of Katozi Village in Chieftainess Waitwika’s area.
“Police received a call from a concerned member of the public to the effect that unknown male person was found dead at a roadside in Brahim Village covered with stones.’’
Mr Masiye said Lawrence Simbeye of the same village told the police that Muzopola was found with a stolen goat in Tanzania.
The people then descended on him some with machetes and stones and after beating him severely he was dragged into Zambia side at Brahim Village where they dumped him by the roadside and laid stones on him.
Mr Masiye said the incident happened on Tuesday between 01:00 hours and 06:00 hours at Brahim village in Chief Waitwika’s District.
Mr Masiye said police rushed to the scene and retrieved the body from the heaps of stones which were put on it by the killers.
The body was discovered with two deep cuts on the forehead, swollen right eye, bruises at the back and on both hands and it is believed that sharp instruments was allegedly used in the act.
Meanwhile, a 74 year old man of Nankalamu village in Chief Nkweto’s area of Chinsali District is battling for his life in Chinsali district hospital after been shot by unknown people.
Mr Masiye named the victim as Jonas Kapinda who was shot using an unknown firearm. The incident happened on Sunday around 20:00 hours.
“The victim sustained gunshot wounds on the buttocks and is admitted to Chinsali District Hospital. Motive behind the shooting is unknown. Police investigations have been launched.’’ Mr Masiye said.
And a 60- year- old Village headman in Mukula village in Chief Lundu’s area of Chama District has committed suicide by hanging himself to a tree in a nearby bush.
Mr Masiye said the motive of the suicide has not yet established and the body has since been buried as no foul play was suspected.
