A LUSAKA man has been ordered to pay K8, 000 penalty virginity damage in Chilenje Local Court.

Timothy Tembo, 28, a laundry man of Makeni Villa, was sued by Toloshi Levani, 67, of Chilenje Township.

Levani said last year he discovered that his daughter was pregnant.

He said he contacted Tembo and his family and invited them for discussins but they did not come.

“My daughter is now seven months pregnant. I wanted to settle this issue out of court, but because of his excuses I decided to sue him,” Levani said.

“We charged him K12,000 but he did not pay anything. There has not been any commitment from him,” he said.

“He has destroyed the future of my daughter. I had high hopes for her. She has been put in a difficult situation,” Levani said.

He said his daughter was still going to school but needed financial help looking at her condition.  “It has been song. I want the court to help me.  I want him to compensate me,” Levani said.

The two were appearing before senior local court magistrate Ackim Phiri sitting with presiding local court magistrate Patrick Nyirenda.

ButTembo said when he was charged K12,000, the girls family demanded K5,000 cash down payment.

“I did not have that amount of money. I have not refused to pay the money. I have found it difficult to pay because the amount is too much,” he said.

Tembo said he would start paying in small installments beginning next month.

The court ordered Tembo to pay a penalty of K8,000 for virginity damage with the first installment of K1,000 effective June 2019.
