PASTOR OF THE WEEK: The Journey to Greatness

Definition of Greatness, Significance, Distinction, Importance, Value, to Matter.

Psalm 37:4 Mark 10:42-45

There’s a misconception today surrounding the subject of Greatness, many people believe it Greatness is a sin so most people don’t even entertain the thought of Greatness, and may I add here we are not talking about self exaltation and the abuse of power as greatness, We however though want talk about greatness from Gods Perspective, Understand that God wants you to be great, it is His desire that you become great.

It is also important to note here that what we use as a yardstick for Greatness, is not necessarily great in God eyes, while it is that we as humans rate by the accolades and achievements in terms of things that have been classified to man eyes, this is not the definition of Greatness by Gods standards.

How do we therefore attain Greatness according to Gods standard? Here are few things to help us know how to put ourselves on the path to greatness.

1.  Desire Greatness

Greatness is not something that just happens, it must not be left to chance,  you must do something to attain greatness and the first thing you must do is that you must desire greatness, this is not just having a wishful thought or just wanting greatness at all cost.

Desire helps you to align yourself with the principles that helps you to get into your Greatness, in Mark 10:42-45 Jesus in talking to His disciples gives them an indication that greatness is to be desired, you are not strange if you desire greatness.

• Prepare for greatness

What are you willing to do to attain to the level of greatness, most people think because I desire it, because I want it, somehow it will happen automatically, you have to prepare yourself for greatness, go to school if you have to, do a research on what you desire to become, learn from those who have gone before you give up certain things to go up, it is a statistical fact that people who won the lotto end up more broke than they were because they did not prepare for that level of greatness, prepare yourself for greatness.

• Stay in Your Lane

Don’t change who you are by copying something you are not, God created you with all the abilities you need to become great, stop changing your life based on social expectations, rather let your life be changed and influenced by principles, stay in your lane, staying in your lane simply means keep doing what God has gifted you with and called you to do.

• Serve others

One of the ways we become great is by serving others, contrary to what the world teaches that you must be served to become great, Gods way of putting you on the path to greatness is that He allows you to serve others, David served Saul to become the King of Israel, Elisha served Elijah to become a great prophet in Israel, Joshua served Moses to become a great leader, President Lungu Served the late President Michael Sata and put himself on the path to greatness, President Sata served president Chiluba and he ended up becoming president, may their souls rest in peace, the list goes on  make up in your mind to become a servant, wherever you are right now serve.

• Start as small as you are.

Understand that no one in life starts out great, everyone who is great started from somewhere, don’t be misled the only business that starts on top is grave digging because it goes down, the Key to becoming great is starting small, the goodness of God is that it doesn’t matter where you are, if you stay faithful He’ll make you Great so start small and climb to the top of the mountain.   

Go out there today and become great.
