A 31-year old man identified as Fred Maanya of Zaoni Street in Luanshya has been arrested for defaming the President during a phone in programme.

Maanya who allegedly disguised himself as Chanda from Kabwe when he called the radio station used derogatory remarks against the Head of State.

Zambia Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed the development in a statement to the Sun.

Ms Katongo said this occurred on March 28, at 06:50 hours during a phone in programme hosted by Millennium Radio station.

“Police have arrested Male Fred Maanya aged 31 of Zaoni Street in Luanshya for defamation of the President during a phone in program,” Ms Katongo said.

She said the suspect is alleged to have called the radio Station where he introduced himself as Chanda from Kabwe and later used derogatory remarks on the republican President.

Ms Katongo explained that investigations revealed that the suspect was not Chanda but Fred Maanya of Luanshya and not Kabwe as he suggested.

She said the suspected was currently detained in police custody and will appear in court soon.
