“OUR chances of topping our stream are still there. All we need is just to win the remaining games and we’ll see where we’ll end,” says Zambia Super League side Zanaco’s coach Numba Mumamba.
Numba told journalists on Saturday after his team beat Green Buffaloes 2-1 that not all hope had been lost despite having surrendered the lead on the summit of Stream A in the Zambia Super League.
He said the next two games where crucial to his team as they would determine its fate in the league.
“The next game will be a very difficult game. Mufulira Wanderers are fighting relegation and such teams are very difficult to beat, especially when they are playing at home.
We just have to go there with everything and force a win so that we can try and push ourselves up the ladder,” he said.
Ten-man Sensational Zanaco FC kept their title hopes alive with a 2-1 win over Green Buffaloes in the FAZ/MTN Super League Week 16 match to ensure that they keep themselves in the race and move to second position on the log.
The victory at Sunset left Zanaco one point adrift Zesco United’s 29 points with two games left to play.
First half goals from Guily Manziba and Moussa Souleymanou sealed victory for the Bankers.
Zanaco were, however, reduced to 10 men after referee Audrick Nkole sent defender Peter Banda out of the pitch for an early shower for a second bookable offence in the 28th minute.
Diamond Chikwekwe reduced the deficit three minutes into the second half when he headed a Jack Chirwa free kick at the far post beating goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata.
Zanaco will have to travel to Shinde Stadium next weekend to face Mufulira Wanderers before hosting Prison Leopards at Sunset on the final day of the season.
But head coach Mumamba Numba still has hope that his team still has the chance to top the table with wins against the bottom and relegation threatened Mufulira Wanderes and Prison Leopards.
