Lcc leads chinika area clean up

THE Lusaka City Council (LCC) on Saturday embarked on the clearing of garbage and a door to door sensitization programme under the keep Zambia clean, green and healthy campaign.
A team of LCC Public Health Officers, students, scouts among other volunteers conducted the exercise in Lusaka’s Chinika and Soweto areas.

The team cleaned-up the areas and sensitized the community on the importance of always keeping the surrounding clean.
The local authority also provided trucks to collect heaps of garbage from the area to the dumpsite in Chunga.

Council Acting Director for Public Health, Edgar Mulwanda said that the council was impressed with the way members of the community through their leaders were mobilizing themselves to ensure that their surroundings especially the markets were kept clean.
Mr. Mulwanda said that the mentality should continue further assuring them that the council would render technical assistance where it was needed.

He said that the initiative of cleaning up people’s respective areas where people lived was to eradicate cholera as well as to beautify the city.
He said that it was important for the people to have full knowledge of the benefits of always keeping clean the surrounding clean.
