A Lusaka woman has sued her husband for divorce for reportedly threatening to chop her with a slasher every time they quarrelled.
Fingai Phiri, 28, of Chelstone residential area, told presiding local court magistrate Mary Namangala, there was no peace in her house because the husband always threatened her with a slasher whenever he was drunk.
This was in a case in which Ms Phiri sued her husband of 17 years, Richard Hamainda, 43, for divorce, in Chelstone Local Court, on allegation that he beats her a lot and did not support his children.
“My husband doesn’t support the children, so I want the court to help me. He even threatens to kill me with slashers. We live a life of Tom and Jerry,” she said.
She said her family was now tired of sitting them down to try and find a solution to their problems.
In defense, Mr. Hamainda told the court the problem his wife liked sleeping with her clothes on to deny him conjugal rights.
“I cannot even touch her, if I do, she shouts at me,” he said.
The plaintiff, in submission, insisted she wanted divorce because she was tired of being punched.
Court granted the couple divorce without compensation to either party. The court ruled that the defendant would support children with a monthly maintenance fee of K500.
