A senior citizen of Lusaka’s Matero Township has bemoaned the dilapidated state of the Matero Stadium and has appealed to Lusaka City Council (LCC) and well-wisher to help rehabilitate the sports facility.
Speaking in an interview with The Sun, David Lungu, a former Matero Tigers player, said that the poor state of the pitch was affecting sports development in the area.

He said the stadium was one of the best sports facilities in Lusaka during the time he played for Matero Tigers, now called Lusaka Tigers. He said the stadium was one of the best sports facilities in Lusaka during the time he played for Matero Tigers, now called Lusaka Tigers.
“This pitch was not in the state it is now. It was one of the best in Lusaka and I would love to see it return to that state,” he said.
He appealed to the council and well-wishers to come to the aid of the community by rehabilitating the sports facility.
Lungu partially attributed Lusaka Tigers’s current poor performance and relegation to the third division, to the use of poor training facilities to train. And Lusaka Tigers chairman, Col. Teddy Njobvu, has also appealed to the local authority to come to aid of the team through renovating the stadium.
He said that his team had in the past requested some corporate entities to help renovate the sports facility but that they could not because they were not sure about the agreement between the team and the LCC.
Meanwhile, Fairview College of Education (FCE) has come to the aid of Lusaka Tigers by providing transport and soccer jerseys to sports outfit.
College vice principle, Joseph Mbewe, said his training institution had decided to patner with Lusaka Tigers through providing it with transport and by dressing the team.
And Col. Njovu thanked the Fairview College of Education for supporting his team saying it would help motivate the players and the club in general.
He has since called upon other stakeholders to come on board top help sponsor the Club.
