Solwezi Municipal Council has spent over K2, 650 in the first quarter of 2019 to bury an unclaimed body, says assistant public relations manager Esther Chirwa.

Ms Chirwa identified the deceased as Evans Shiku ,40 who died on the January 3 but had remained unclaimed since then.

“The body stayed in the hospital for 47 days and the hospital saw it fit for the council to bury it and the local authority spent K2, 650 to have it buried,”, she said.

Ms Chirwa said a notice was put up in all public areas for the body to be claimed for two weeks until February 28 when it was buried at the council’s Kimiteto graveyard.

She urged the public to be mindful of all notices put up, adding that it was only fair that the dead were buried by their own relatives.

Ms Chirwa however expressed gratitude to the public for playing their role in burring their dead which had resulted in only one body being unclaimed.
