FAZ plans provincial cups

PLANS are underway by Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to introduce provincial cup tournaments in an effort to develop the sport, says president Andrew Kamanga.
Speaking during a briefing with various football administrators on the Copperbelt at the weekend, Kamanga said the provincial cup tournaments to be introduced in all ten provinces of Zambia would only target lower division teams such as division two and three.
Kamanga said the move was aimed at promoting football in the lower divisions.
Meanwhile, FAZ Copperbelt Province administrator Phillip Zyambo said all the FAZ administrators would meet soon with FAZ president to discuss the detailed format of how the tournament would run.
Zyambo said that the provincial cup tournament would also involve the women teams which should compete with other women’s teams for their own trophy.
The announcement by Kamanga to introduce the tournament will be the first-time lower division teams to have a cup competition spread out across Zambia.
