A LUSAKA woman has narrated how her cousin was beaten by a bus conductor and later taken to the police post where he was detained for allegedly failing to pay the bus fare.

According to the woman, who opted to remain anonymous, her cousin Patson Mumba gave the conductor a K100 note but instead of giving him change, the latter accused him of failing to pay the bus fare.

The conductor reportedly became aggressive and beat up his cousin and later too him to the police post that he failed to pay the bus fare.

She explained that police refused to release Mr. Mumba even after an eye witness narrated what exactly transpired.

“The officer found on duty was drunk, rude and refused to release my cousin despite being in bad condition,” she said.

She wondered why the police officer who are supposed to protect the public are the ones abusing them.
