Kitwe peasant farmer takes own life

A 51-year old peasant farmer of Kitwe ZNS camp area identified as Kingstone Mupaka has committed suicide by taking an insecticide for unknown reasons.

Confirming the incident to the Sun, Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Charity Katanga said Mr Mpaka was found on Thursday this week evening in an unconscious state after taking the poisonous substance.

Ms Katanga said Mr Mupaka died a few hours after arriving at Kitwe Teaching Hospital.

“Police in Kitwe received a report of a peasant farmer of ZNS camp area, Kingstone Mupaka aged 51 years who was found in an unconscious state after taking the poisonous substance,

“He was briefly admitted and later died around 22:00 hours yesterday. Reasons for the suicide are not yet known,” Ms Katanga said.

Ms Katanga said the body of Mr Mupaka was deposited in Kitwe Teaching Hospital mortuary.

She said the police have opened an inquiry to establish the reasons behind the suicide.
