Calling all madala netballers

FORMER and retired netballers have been asked to consider taking part in the Madalas (senior) tournament slated for end of March for them to keep fit.
Netball Association of Zambia (NAZ) president Getrude Mukumi said the 2019 Madalas netball tournament will take place on the at a venue to be announced.
Speaking in an interview with the Sun Sports, Mukumi said retired netballers could play a huge role in luring young ones to netball.
“When young ones see madalas taking part in the sport, they will be motivated to also join. Madalas’ participation in netball can contribute to the growth of the sport. The madalas should play their role of inspiring young ones,” she said
Mukumi also said that the association had started holding competitions at traditional ceremonies to showcase talent and attract old people to the sport.
She said the participation of seniors in netball could not be overemphasized as it was not only beneficial to upcoming players, but also came with it a lot of health benefits to the aged.
“It is important because it also helps in fighting diseases associated with old age, so I am encouraging madalas to consider taking part in some tournaments that we have lined up,
“The only challenge which we have with netball being a minor sport is that we get less support from the corporate world but if we can have that, I have no doubt we can perform much better,” Mukumi said.
Meanwhile Mukumi said the association was looking forward to another exciting netball season which starts in March.
She said that the association was also working on strategizing the sport among men in Zambia.
