Muchinga mob kills man

A MAN of Peter Lubashi Village of Lavushimanda District in Muchinga Province has been murdered by unknown people on suspicion that he was practicing witchcraft.
Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Joel Njase confirmed the incident and named the victim as Godfrey Nkandu, 58, of Chief Mpumba’s area.
‘‘We received a report of murder from Theresa Lubashi of Peter Lubashi Village in Chief Mpumba’s area of Lavushimanda District to the effect that a man by the name of Godfrey Nkandu aged 58 of the same village was murdered by unknown people after being suspected of being a wizard by family members.’’ Mr Njase said.
Mr Njase said the deceased sustained deep cuts on the head on neck and on the forehead from an axe which was used in the brutal murder.
He said the incident happened on Monday around 0800hs and Mr Nkandu’s body was discovered in the bush about 100 metres away from his house.
‘‘The body was discovered by a Mr Surgeon Mulenga and Mr Ronald Bwalya both of Saili village who went looking for him when they were told by Mr Nkandu’s wife Fridah Chulu 39 about her missing husband,
“My men visited the scene of crime and the body was found lying on the ground facing downwards in the pool of blood and had two deep cuts on the head, neck and left side of the forehead,” said Mr Njase
Mr Njase said some traditional medicines, a piece of white cloth, four needles tied with beads, copper wires and empty match box were also found at the scene.
He said the body has since been deposited at Chilonga Mission Hospital mortuary waiting postmodern.
He said no arrests had been made so far but police have launched investigations into the matter.
‘‘It is unfortunate that individuals or groups have continued to take law in their own hands in this area,
“However the Police command in Muchinga will not relent to deal with such matters in accordance with the provisions of the law.’’ Mr Njase said.
