ABOUT K8 billion has been collected from all toll plazas including weigh bridges in Zambia, the National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) has disclosed.

And NRFA public relations manager Alphonsius Hamachila disclosed that K100 million kwacha has been collected from the Shimabala toll plaza in Kafue district alone.

In an interview, NRFA public relations manager Alphonsius Hamachila, however, explained that the K8 billion figure being quoted were for the period between when the first toll gate was opened up to last year.

“Note that the K2.8 billion is the money that had been collected from all toll plazas including weigh bridges from 2013 to 2018,” Mr Hamachila said.

He also said the K100 million collected from the Shimabala Toll Plaza in Kafue district was the total amount since the facility became operational in 2017.

Mr Hamachila further challenged the public to always counter check the figures for the toll fees with the agency to avoid misinforming the public.

He said it was wrong for people to deliberately misconstrue information so as to damage the names of innocent civil servants.

Mr Hamachila added that the public was free to monitor how the tolling was done and how the resources were channeled to the intended projects.
