RESIDENTS of Chilenje Township have expressed concern over the erratic water supply in the area by the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC).

The residents in many parts of the township have complained of going without water for days without proper explanation from LWSC.

One of the concerned residents, Anika Mbobela said for some days now, the area has been experiencing erratic water supply, and sometimes they went without any water at all.

“We want LWSC to improve the water supply because it is becoming difficult for us to be moving around in search of water. It is very inconveniencing especially that some of us use flushable toilets which need enough water,’’ She said.

Ms Martha Sakala, a preschool teacher said it was becoming increasingly difficult to conduct normal learning classes at some schools in the area due to poor water supply.

“We have to send the children back home, or run half day because we cannot keep the children in school without enough water to drink, wash their hands and also for the toilets,” she said.

She said the water utility company should find amicable ways to improve the situation before it became worse.

Mr Alison Mumbi said some of the water pipes were rusty and exposed and needed to be replaced to avoid diseases and contamination of the life-saving commodity.

Mr Mumbi complained that there a pipe leak on Muramba Road which had kept  losing  the little water that came through while the water utility company has done nothing to correct the matter

He complained of the water supplied in some instances being dirty and not safe for consumption.
