A Lusaka Eangelist has appeared in the magistrates’ court for allegedly issuing cheques on an insufficiently funded account and obtaining goods by false pretence.

In the first count, Evangelist Hubrey Msalu, 45, is charged with having issued cheques on an insufficiently funded account, between March 20 and 22, contrary to section 33(1) of the national payments systems, Act no. 1 of 2007 of the Laws of Zambia.

In the second count, the evangelist is alleged to have, between January 5 and 15, obtained goods by false pretence, contrary to section 309 of the penal code, chapter 7 of the Laws of Zambia.

The goods were obtained from Hatuchi CH Enterprises on the pretext that they would be paid for in a month’s time when infact not.

Evangelist Msalu appeared before Magistrate David Simunsamba and denied all the charges.

The matter comes up for trial on March 19.
