Nkana pitch condition annoys teams

Speaking in post-match interviews, after Nkana edged the visiting Al Hillal team 2-1, Nkana coach, Beston Chambeshi, bemoaned the unfavorable conditions of the pitch which saw his key striker. Ronald Kampamba, pick up an injury and substituted.

Chambeshi however, praised player, Ronald Kampamba, for being magnanimous and only requesting to be substituted after picking a knock.

Chambeshi also said he was happy with the maturity exhibited by the players who tactically adapt after striker Kampamba was substituted.

” It wasn’t an easy decision to make the substitution of ”Sate Sate”. But I like the maturity exhibited by the players. It’s good to have a player come to you and say, coach, I have a clump and I need to rest. Other players will just for the sake of playing under a huge crowd. But the young boy stood his ground and that’s why we had to make a quick change,” he said.

And Al Hillal coach, Irad Zaafouri, said it was not easy for his team to adapt to the bad conditions of the pitch and that the weather conditions also made it difficult for his team to play his kind of short passing football.

“The bigger part was the weather condition and the quality. It was a big problem for us because in Hillal we play good football, short passes but today we couldn’t do that,” Zaafouri said.

“That Nkana played very well doesn’t mean that we did not play well, we are not just used to playing with water on the pitch. We don’t have this type of weather in Hillal,” he said.

Nkana coach Chambeshi also admitted it was not an easy game for his club either but that what is important is the fact that his team picked an important win in the competition.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) changed its competitions calendar in order for the Confederations Cup and the Champions League to conform to the European League calendar. This change has received mixed reactions from the football fraternity, especially from among the sub Saharan countries, which normally experience rains between November and March.

Nkana beat Al Hillal 2-1 in their group second game to see them collect its first three points in the group. The team earlier lost to ZESCO United in their first game. Al Hillal will play against Zesco in their next game and will camp in Zambia until their next play which is scheduled for next week in Ndola
