WOMEN should consider joining bodybuilding for their own healthy well-being as the sport has many benefits if taken seriously, Zambia Body Building and Fitness Federation (ZBBF) president Emmanuel Chimuka has said.
Chimuka said there was more to bodybuilding than weightlifting as perceived by many people.
Speaking in an interview with the Sun Sports yesterday Chimuka said that there was need for people to understand that bodybuilding as a sport went beyond lifting weights.
He said that there were other activities related to the sport which a woman could do.
“The sport involves aerobics which can be done by anybody including women and such activities help in keeping the body in shape,” Chimuka said.
Chimuka said to encourage women take part in the sport which has been mostly male-dominated, the federation was encouraging females to take part as trainers to lure fellow women.
“We have started incorporating females in our events including professional women body builders from other countries just to come and encourage our women take part in the sport and we will continue doing this in 2019 and beyond,” he said.
Chimuka said that the reception from women to join the sport has been very good and further said a number of gyms had started preparing events for female competitors.
“Our appeal is that there should be a change of mindset from women towards the sport. Bodybuilding is about defining your body in a way that you want it to be. It brings with it a lot of benefits,” said Chimuka.
“People should expect more improved competition now that we have found our ground and a number of sponsors have come on board,
“Even more people have become interested in the sport and this indicates that bodybuilding is headed for growth,” he said.
