Man survives crocodile attack

CONTINUED crocodile attacks in Chirundu have worried a civic leader who has called on department of national parks and wildlife to up their efforts in controlling beasts like crocodiles.
Chisakila ward councilor Comply Siamungala said despite informing the department on the need to control wildlife, the situation had not changed for the better.
Mr Siamungala was commenting on the latest incident in which 45 year old Julius Kanzala was attacked by a crocodile on January 28 as he crossed the Kafue River from Chisakila to Shibamenda village to take his maize for milling.
Mr Kanzala however overpowered the reptile and escaped without his right hand which the crocodile managed to rip off during the struggle.
He is currently admitted to Mtendere Mission hospital and his life is out of danger.
Meanwhile, councilor Siamungala told the Sun that he was very concerned about the increasing number of people being attacked by the crocodiles despite the presence of the DNPW officers in the area.
The councilor has appealed to the area warden in Chirundu to send more officers to Chisakila ward and crop the marauding crocodiles terrorizing the people in the community.
Mr. Siamungala said that he really wanted human life to be respected and protected at all the times and charged that it was the people that voted and not the animals.
The districts warden in Chirundu could not be immediately reached for a comment.
