LACK of adequate toilets may force the closure of a Chirundu based school, district commissioner Alfred Hamunjo has warned
PAMBAZANA Primary school in Chief Chipepo’s area of Chirundu district faces closure because of running with inadequate toilets from last year, district commissioner Alfred Hamunjo has warned.
Mr Hamunjo expressed disappointment with Pambazana community for not building more toilets at the school.
He said the school risked to be shut down because of inadequate toilet facilities.
The district commissioner sounded the warning when he addressed the community development committee (WDC) and the parents and teachers committee (PTC) on Thursday where he advised the residents to work together to put up toilets at the school.
Mr Hamunjo asked the school head teacher George Mwachindalo to explain why the school and the community did not build toilets despite assurances that they would be built within the stipulated time.
But Mr Mwachindalo explained that the community was not committed and lacked co-operation.
Pambazana primary school currently has two toilets serving 465 pupils, shared between boys and girls.
However, speaking at the same meeting Chirundu town council secretary John Mwanza expressed displeasure and said the situation at the school was unacceptable and will order its closure if nothing was done within the shortest possible time.
He said it was unacceptable and unhealthy to have two toilets against the population of 465 pupils.
And council chairman Mr Robison Sianduba also warned the community that he would not defend them this time around.
Mr. Sianduba also warned the community against practicing witchcraft and tormenting teachers.
He said the reports have reached his office and he would engage chief Chipepo and his subjects to resolve the matter.
Meanwhile, Chief Chipepo’s representative Ngambela Arnold Sinambela assured the DC and his entourage that he would work tirelessly to restore sanity.
