GOVERNMENT has assured that it would continue to create an enabling environment to enable sportsmen to thrive and earn a living.

Speaking during the 2018 National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) awards, held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre on Friday night, Youth, Sport and Child Development Minister Moses Mawere urged sportsmen to take advantage of the good policy and infrastructure put in place by government to excel.

“The huge investment in sports facilities should result into improved performance among local athletes,” he stated.

And acting national sports council general secretary, Mr. Raphael Mulenga, explained that the council had decided to revitalize the sports awards after a three years absence in order to encourage and appreciate deserving sports-persons.

Mulenga said ” awards are meant to motivate and appreciate both athletes and sports journalists who are making effort to grow the various sport disciplines in the country.”

Mulenga added that it was befitting to award participants for their efforts of putting Zambia on the world map through the sport.

Meanwhile, some sports journalists as well as sports administrators intimated they were not happy with some of the people awarded and queried the criteria used in selecting the winners.
