A Lusaka woman has asked the Kanyama local court to end her marriage from her violent husband.

Moses Chipilipili, 31, a truck driver of Makeni Simoson was sued by his wife of 10 years because she got tired of the beatings and threats to kill her.

Mervis Nandama, 26, also of Makeni Simoson sued her husband for divorce on grounds of violence.

Nandama narrated how her husband gets violent each time he takes alcohol.

“Bakamwa che nishi niku nimenya, Ndalama zavokudya kulibe nichita ka loba kuti bana badye. Every time my husband drinks he beats me and he hardly provides for the children I have to depend on credit for their survival,” Mervis said.

Mervis complained how her husband had tried to choke her several times in an attempt to kill her after she confronted him for beating her in public without a proper reason.

“Often he says he will kill me one day and he has pushed me outside the house during the night on many occasions even the church and family members are aware of this problem. I’m tired and I want the marriage to end,” Mervis said.

In his defense, Chipilipili denied ever beating his wife or ever putting her outside during the night.

“Ninga menye bwanji mukadzi wanga olo kumu goneka panja monga ndine ofunta nimukonda elo nifuna ti sunge bana. How can I beat my own wife or put her outside during the night as if I’m crazy I love her and I want us to raise our children together,” Chipilipili said.

The two have two children between them of 4 to 8 years.

Meanwhile Judge Mubukwanu Matakala has advised the couple to try to sort out their differences before deciding on settling for divorce as the couple has children to consider.
