ZAMBIA Army sponsored super league side Green Buffaloes has parted company with Coach Bilton Musonda.
Musonda who has been with the team for the past 5 seasons having earlier served as assistant coach to former coaches George Lwandamina, Patrick Phiri and Wedson Nyirenda, becomes the first casualty to be sacked just days before the Zambian Super league begins this weekend.
Musonda’s firing was confirmed in a statement on the Club’s Facebook page on Monday evening which said the Club would be making changes to its technical bench.
“Green Buffaloes are expected to make changes to the technical bench, with a new coach expected to be unveiled on Tuesday.
“We thank you coach Bilton for all the moments and your knowledge to our beloved football, have a great future,’’ the statement said.
But when contacted for confirmation GBFC chairman, Colonel Dennis Sinkamba could not confirm the development as he was reported to be holed up in a meeting.
Sources close to the development however said that Saturday’s loss to fellow super division side NAPSA Stars in a pre- season training could have triggered Musonda’s firing as it exposed the team’s weaknesses after NAPSA beat the GBFC A side 2-0 while its B team won 2-1.
Green Buffaloes finished third in the Zambian super league behind runners up Nkana and eventual champions ZESCO United, but managed to qualify to the CAF confederations Cup where they were eliminated in the second round by Tunisian giants CS sfaxien who beat the Zambian team 4-1 at home , while GBFC won the return leg 1-0 at Lusaka’s Nkoloma stadium.
