ZAMBIA’S power utility company sponsored side ZESCO United extended its load shedding services to the FNB stadium in South Africa where they electrocuted that country’s soccer giants Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 to qualify to the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup.

The Ndola giants and current Zambian Super League reigning champions thumped Chiefs 2-1 in the return leg of the CAF Confederations Cup played on Saturday, recording a 5-2-win on aggregate.

ZESCO scored in each half through Kenyan duo of Anthony Akumu and Jesse Were while Khama Billiat of the Chiefs managed to put one behind United’s net.

Akumu scored the opener after 10 minutes of play while Were’s goal came in the 70th minute and Billiat scored in stoppage time of the last half.

The Zambian representatives in the competition beat Chiefs to a 3-1 victory when the two teams clashed in the first leg which was played at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola the previous weekend.

The Gorge Lwandamina tutored side has now qualified to the group stage of the competition but is yet to know who their next opponents would be when the draws are conducted expectedly within this week.

And speaking in an interview with the Sun Sports, ZESCO United Fans national vice chairman Andrew Liyungu expressed happiness with the team’s performance in both games played in Ndola and South Africa respectively.

“This is a sweet victory for not only united fans, but the entire nation at large because the team has continued to raise the Zambian flag high,” Liyungu said.

Liyungu said it was not easy to beat a team like Chiefs both home and away and praised ZESCO for delivering to the expectations of its supporters.

“I know others had written us off knowing that Chiefs was a good side but ZESCO has also proved that it is a household name when it comes to continental football and on behalf of ZESCO United fans, we are proud of the team,” said Liyungu.

Liyungu however urged the team to look ahead and plan adequately for the coming fixture.
