A passenger died on the spot when the bus he was travelling in overturned at Kanona, situated about 70km from Serenje town.
Mailo Ward Councillor Patrick Munshya who rushed to the scene, confirmed the accident to The Sun yesterday.
Mr. Munshya said that the bus, registration number AIB 7204 and belonging to Mbewe Transport, overturned about 12:00hours enroute to Nakonde.
According to Councillor Munshya, the unidentified driver of the bus, who is on the run, was talking on the phone when a dog trying to cross the road made him suddenly swerve the bus but flipped in the process.
“The bus flipped off the road as he tried to avoid hitting a dog,” Mr. Munshya said.
He explained that the deceased passenger was trapped under the bus but firemen managed to retrieve his body and the injured passengers from the wreckage with the help of a folk lifter from the local manganese mine.
He said that the victims, who are all out of danger, were rushed to Serenje and Chitambo Hospitals for treatment.
