THE World Bank through Ministry of General Education in Solwezi District has handed over two Toyota Land Cruisers to Chavuma and Mufumbwe Districts to help end child marriage through the Girls and Women’s Empowerment and Livelihood Project (GEWEL).

Speaking during the hand-over ceremony at the provincial administration office, Deputy Permanent Secretary Douglas Ngimbu expressed his gratitude for the vehicles.

He said the GEWEL project aimed at empowering Zambian girls and women to support and increase access to livelihood, for women and access to secondary education for disadvantaged adolescent girls.

Mr Ngimbu said that the help rendered to the two districts by the World Bank should not be in vein but put to good use.

“It is disheartening to learn that education officers have inadequate equipment to help do their job but with the vehicle each district I am certain that no school going girl with or without a child will fail to attain an education”, he said.

The District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) in Chavuma District Moses Luanga and Mufumbwe District DEBS Evans Kamwana expressed gratitude and appreciation for the gesture from the bank.
