OVER a 100 sports coaches in various disciplines from across Zambia are expected to take part in a 5-day coaching clinic in Lusaka, says Zambia Schools Sports Association (ZASSA) president Chipango Tembo.

Tembo said the 5-day coaching clinic was expected to start today at Lusaka at Olympic Youth Development Center (OYDC).

He told Sun Sports in an interview that two coaches a male and female from each sport discipline from each province would take part in the training exercise.

Tembo mentioned coaches in soccer, basketball, volleyball, athletics, chess, rugby and badminton as some of those to be in attendance for the capacity building exercise.

Others will be coaches in netball, table tennis and sports for differently-abled children.

“This time around we want to bridge all these gaps and work with the federations so that with increased collaboration, the federation can have a pool of where to pick athletes from especially for the U-20 teams,”

“They have been be trained by unqualified coaches and that is why this training clinic will also include PE (physical education) because they are the ones who handle the athletes in schools,” Tembo said.

Tembo further said ZASSA had noticed gaps between it and sports federations which it badly wanted to seal.
