Tension between PF MPS and the speaker worries stakeholders

Stakeholders have expressed concern over the continued tension between the Speaker of National Assembly and Patriotic Front Members of Parliament.
Yesterday some PF members of parliament walked out of parliament citing unfair treatment by the speaker.
The MPs charged that the speaker is biased as favor is given to members of parliament from the ruling party.
Opposition chief whip and Shiwang’andu Member of Parliament Stephen Kampyongo says PF MP’s are not being given a conducive environment to deliberate and air their concerns.
Mr. Kampyongo says the PF Members of Parliament have tried to use all avenues of dialogue but to no avail.

And Foundation for Democratic processes president Mwenda Mumbuna says if the law makers have exhausted all channels of trying to air their grievances they have the right to walk out of parliament.
Mr. Mumbuna says the complaints have been going on for a long time and need to be addressed as soon as possible.
He says the continued tension between the PF law makers and the speakers is detrimental to Democracy.

Meanwhile Political Analyst Alex Ngoma says there is need for the Speaker of the National Assembly to treat members of parliament equally for the smooth running of parliament
Dr. Ngoma says the complaints by PF members of parliament that they are being treated unfairly when compared to their colleagues calls for the Speaker to defend themselves against the allegations.
He says more often speakers tend to favor those in the ruling party which should not be the case in a democratic dispensation.

But Governance Elections and Advocacy Research GEARS Initiative has charged that there is need for the PF members of parliament to understand that they are now in opposition and they cannot be treated the same ways as when they were in power.
