Officers from the Department of Wildlife and National Parks have gunned down one of the elephants that were causing havoc and terror in the area.

The elephant was killed in Simonga area under Sekute Chiefdom and had its meat distributed among the residents in the same area.

Katombora Member of Parliament Clement Andeleki on Sunday accompanied the officers in hunting down the beasts.

Dr Andeleki said that the development has come about after several calls by his office, that of the District Commissioner Elias Siamibila and the affected villages for the department to move in and control the animals.

He said that this is how it is supposed to be not a situation where people’s lives are at risk and no solution from the department is rendered forthwith.

Dr Andeleki said that despite one of the elephants being killed, a lot more damage has been caused since the time the animals invaded the chiefdoms.

However, He has commended the department for responding to the people’s calls even at the last minute.
