ZCCM-IH calls for unity in infrastructure development

AFRICAN governments should work towards attracting more investments into their country’s natural resources to enhance infrastructure development, according to ZCCM-IH Board Chairperson, Dolika Banda.

Ms Banda emphasised the important to ensure that critical investments were channelled towards mining and infrastructure development in the region.

She indicated that there was need for countries in the region to foster partnerships in various sectors of the economy as Africa strive to achieve regional integration.

She was speaking at the  Mining Indaba in Cape Town when she appeared on South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) panel of discussion on “mobilising public commitment and political leadership to advance regional integration and sustainable development through infrastructure.”

“This is why governments should attract premium investment by creating an enabling environment for investments to thrive by making policies and regulatory frameworks that are transparent and viable,” Ms Banda said.

She cited that the provision of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes by investors that have tangible benefits to the local communities as one avenue that governments should utilise to enhance infrastructure development.

The programme was also attended by Deputy Secretary to Cabinet Siakazongo Siakalima and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance and National Planning Mukuli Chikuba.

At the same Programme, a Digital Technology Expert, Janadu Pleasis, praised Zambia for the progress it was making in reducing the cost of connectivity in the area of communication.

Mr Pleasis said Zambia was among the few countries on the African continent that was making positive steps in making the cost of connection low.
