Promote exports to strengthen Kwacha, says economist Noah Kabwita,

PROMOTE increased production to strengthen the export sector for the country’s economy that is struggling to strengthen the Kwacha, an economist, Noah Kabwita, has advised Government.

Mr. Kabwita said production for exports is what strengthens the economy especially in a country like Zambia with a weak currency.

He said in an interview that the country should strive to grow its export base through increased production. “What strengthens the economy is production and if we want to take advantage of a weak currency, we must be powerful exporters,” he said.

Mr. Kabwita said the country has a tricky situation because it was poor at exporting and strong at importing, a situation that should be addressed through better production because the currency was weak. He said improved production would help the country manage its fragile economy because a weak currency speaks to powerful exports and not the opposite.
