70 % of Shiwang`andu residents to be vaccinated

SHIWANG`ANDU District Health Office in Muchinga Province  is targeting to vaccinate at least 70% of the district population against Covid-19 by June 2022, in order to enhance public health.

District Health Director, Gibson Mweemba said so far 9,000 people have been vaccinated against covid-19 in Shiwang`andu district out of the 44, 000 targeted representing a target of 70% of the district Population.

Mr. Mweemba revealed this in an interview with Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Shiwang`andu today.

He said vaccines that include Pfizer for children between the age of 12 and 17 years, Sinopharm, Astrazeneca, Johnsons & Johnsons are available in Shiwang`andu District.

Mr. Mweemba added that, the current total number of doses remaining is 8,800, with 500 doses of Pfizer, 500 doses of Astrazeneca, 800 doses of Johnsons & Johnsons and 7, 000 doses of Sinopharm.

“The 4 types of vaccines have since been distributed to all Health facilities in the district for the people to access,” said Mr. Mweemba.

Mr. Mweemba lamented that the response among people to get vaccinated is not impressive, to this effect he has called on Village Headmen to help in sensitizing community members on the importance of getting vaccinated against covid-19, adding that the Health office has now intensified its sensitization effort.

He further said in ensuring that even children between the age of 12 and 17 are vaccinated, the Health office has engaged the District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) to sensitize learners, Parents and Guardians on the importance and safety of Pfizer vaccine.

And Shiwang`andu District Commissioner, Maureen Bwembya has called on Civil Servants to resume normal working days as directed in a cabinet office circular dated January 26, 2022.

Ms. Bwembya said that as civil servants resume to normal working days, public health guidelines on Covid 19 must be followed strictly.
