Counting of votes underway

Counting of votes is currently underway in yesterday’s general elections which unbelievably overwhelming response in what is likely to be tight contest between incumbent president Edgar Lungu of PF and Hakainde Hichilema of UPND.
The announcement of the results commenced around 02;00 hours this morning with only seven polling stations from Lusaka central constituency that had so far been captured out of 116 polling stations in the constituency.
From the announced results which were done at Civic Centre in Lusaka by the returning officer Sandra Nanyangwe, UPND parliamentary candidate MilamboHaimbe had taken the lead in the race while PF’s candidate Margret Mwanaktwe was second.
Among the polling stations captured include Lusaka female correctional centre, Kabulongaboys secondary school, Nkwazi primary school and Jacaranda primary school.
Meanwhile Foundation for Democratic Process-FODEP Lusaka chairperson Jackson Miti described the process as slow although attributing it to the high turnout in the election.
