A 17 year old juvenile is currently in hospital after being shot and wounded by police using a rubber bullet, as he allegedly threw stones at officers in Mongu yesterday.
And Zambia Police Spokesperson Ester Katongo has confirmed the development saying the juvenile was shot and wounded with a rubber bullet by police.
Ms Katongo says the juvenile was rushed to the Hospital where he is being guarded and once discharged will be charged with conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
The suspect is alleged to have been throwing stones at police yesterday 06TH August, 2021 at about 19>30 hours at total filling station along Lusaka road at UPND Secretariat in Mongu.
Ms Katongo has explained that the incident happened after the UPND Leader MrHakaindeHichilema reached their secretariat and supporters decided to block the road.
She says after being ordered to disperse, the supporters resisted, forcing police to fire tear smoke.
She says the crowd then became unruly and begun throwing stones, forcing police to defend themselves by use of rubber bullets.
