CCPC challenged to quickly resolve cement prices hike case

The Association of Small-Scale Contractors in Zambia has challenged the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission to quickly resolve the case involving increment of cement prices by manufacturing companies.
Association President Mutale Mpepo says the earlier the matter which was appealed against is resolved, the better because contractors are interest in affordable commodities to work.
Lafarge Zambia Plc and Mpande Limestone Limited recently appealed a CCPC decision to fine them 10 per cent of their annual turnover for 2019 and 2020 for price fixing and division of markets with a directive to reduce prices.
Mr Mpepo says contractors are interested in fair competition and commodities used to be fairly priced because cartels in the cement manufacturing sector are retrogressive.
