The National Union for Small Scale Farmers of Zambia has commended government for releasing K500 million to the Food Reserve Agency on time to pay the famers who supplied crops to the agency.
Government on Thursday released K500 million to the food reserve agency FRA to enable the agency to buy more crops and make timely payments to farmers.
And NUSFAZ Executive Director Ebony Loloji says the release of money by government to the Food Reserve Agency to buy crops such as maize will go a long way in ensuring that smuggling is curbed as well as enhance the country’s food security.
Mr. Loloji says people engaged in smuggling are looking for better prices of a particular product such as mealie meal fetching at k400 for 25 kg bag in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo.
