I will not close markets, President Lungu assures marketers

President Edgar Lungu says he will not close markets as a way to stop the spread of covid 19 because this is where ordinary citizens are earning their livelihoods.
However president Lungu has encouraged marketeers to continue masking up to disrupt the further spread of covid 19.
The head of state has implored traders at Mtendere market to always adhere to the health guidelines by the health authorities to contain the spread of the pandemic.
He said this when he toured Mtendere Market this morning to check on covid 19 compliance levels.
Meanwhile 537 people have succumbed to covid19 from 1st July 2021 to date with 64 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.
And in the last 24 hours, 45 bars, nightclubs and casinos were closed for abrogating covid19 regulations.
Ministry of Health permanent for technical services Kennedy Malama says 648 premises inspected countrywide, and of these 509 were compliant whereas 45 were closed, and 139 were served with notices
And Dr Malama says in the last 24 hours 1,949 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded out of 8,473 tests conducted.
