End Malaria Council commends government’s effort in the fight against malaria

The End Malaria Council EMC says despite some challenges in tackling malaria, the interventions being undertaken by stakeholders are paying off and official statistics are much lower than reflected in the 2018 demographic health survey.

According to the 2018 demographic health survey, Zambia is among the top 20 countries with the highest malaria prevalence in the world.

EMN National Coordinator Elizabeth Chizema says the ‘Malaria Ends with Me Initiative’ that was launched in 2018 has assisted towards interventions, despite a few challenges as a result of the covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Chizema says malaria cases and deaths had increased in 2020, but cases are so far very low this year.

Dr Chizema says Zambia will see a marked reduction in cases as some areas are already recording reduced cases, with some areas recording no cases in the last three years.
