Chipolopolo captain Kabaso Chongo says Zambia will take the 2021 Cosafa tournament seriously as it has birthed many opportunities in its 20-year history.
In an interview with the FAZ media, the TP Mazembe defender said being defending champions will not be an excuse to be complacent by Zambia who are placed in the same group with Comoros, Madagascar and Malawi.
The TP Mazembe hard man who missed on the June FIFA Window international friendly matches that took Zambia to Senegal, Benin and Sudan said, “We will not approach the tournament that we are champions, we will have to work hard for things to be okay. Those who will be in the starting eleven have to work hard.”
He also said that Cosafa had built a strong foundation for careers in its 20-year history and deserved the respect of everyone in football.
He has also urged the upcoming players to work hard for them to earn places in the squad.
Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has named a blend of youth and experience as he sets his sights on refining his squad for the September Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers where Zambia will be away to Mauritania before hosting Tunisia.
