The Petroleum Transporters Association of Zambia says the strategic fuel storage depots created in provinces has negatively affected transporters whose income has reduced.
Association Secretary General Benson Tembo says this decentralization of fuel storage depots is not helping the transporters in any way because of reduced distance to the end users thereby not making adequate profit.
Mr Tembo says as a result, most of the local transporters have fallen on the transportation of imported fuel because it has high returns and helps building local capacity.
Mr Tembo says the storage depots which were initially supposed to be used to store fuel for use in times of calamities or short supply from the ports have unfortunately been turned into operational depots.
